How to update my browser, bookmarks, clear my cache and change text size

Here at Lake View Credit Union, we want your experience when using our digital tools and platforms to be the very best it can be. Updating your browser to make sure it's current and adjusting the size of text you see are two great ways to guarantee yourself an optimal experience.

Browser

Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11)                                                                                                                                                                               
  1. On your computer, open Internet Explorer.
  2. At the top right, click the gear icon.
  3. Select About Internet Explorer.
  4. Check the box labelled Install new versions automatically.
  5. Now Internet Explorer should stay up to date automatically.
Google Chrome                                                                                                                                                                              
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click more (3 stacked dots).
  3. Go down to Help, then About Chrome.
  4. This should take you to a page which displays the version of Chrome you have. If an update is required, it will prompt you to update your version of Chrome to the latest.
  5. Alternatively, enter the link chrome://settings/help to access this page directly.  
Microsoft Edge                                                                                                                                                                             
  1. On your computer, open Microsoft Edge.
  2. At the top right, click more (3 stacked dots).
  3. Go down to Help and feedback, then About Microsoft Edge.
  4. This should take you to a page which displays the version of Edge you have. If an update is required, it will prompt you to update your version of Edge to the latest.
  5. Alternatively, enter the link edge://settings/help to access this page directly.  
Safari                                                                                                                                                                             
  1. On your computer, open the App Store. This can be accessed via the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then clicking on the App Store option under System Preferences.
  2. Go to the Updates tab.
  3. Find and install the Safari Update under the updates section.  
Firefox                                                                                                                                                                               
  1. On your computer, open Firefox.
  2. Click the 3 horizontal lines on the top right of the window.
  3. Go down to Help, then Select About Firefox.
  4. This should open a window which displays the version of Firefox you have. Click Check for updates. If an update is required, it will prompt you to update your version of Firefox to the latest.

Booksmarks (Prior to clearing cache)

  1. Save a new bookmark and delete the old (if you are on a Windows computer it is Ctrl + D and on a Mac it is Opt + D)

Clear Cache

Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11)
  1. Open Internet Explorer 11.
  2. On the very right-hand side of the browser, select on the gear icon, also called the Tools > Safety > Delete browsing history. (Alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + Del on the keyboard.)
  3. In the Delete Browsing History window that appears, uncheck all options except the one labeled Temporary Internet files and website files.
  4. Select Delete at the bottom of the window.
  5. The Delete Browsing History window will disappear and you might notice your mouse icon change to the wait cursor for a few moments.
  6. As soon as your cursor returns to normal, or you notice the "finished deleting" message at the bottom of the screen, consider your temporary internet files deleted.
Google Chrome
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click more (3 stacked dots)
  3. Click More tools > Clear browsing data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
  6. Click Clear data.
Microsoft Edge
  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select the Settings and More menu (the three ellipses).
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select the Privacy & Security tab in the left pane of the Settings menu.
  5. Select the Choose What to Clear button in the Clear Browsing Data section.
  6. Select the checkboxes of the types of data you want to clear from the cache. (‘Cookies and saved website data’ and ‘Cached data and files’)
  7. Choose Clear.
Safari
  1. Open up the Safari Web browser.
  2. Click on Safari in the menu bar and open Preferences.
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Click on Manage Website Data.
  5. Click Remove All, and then confirm it by clicking on Remove Now in the next dialogue box.
  6. Close and reopen the Safari Web browser.
Firefox
  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click the setting button on the top-right corner.
  3. Click on Options.
  4. On the left pane, select Privacy & Security.
  5. Under “History”, click the clear your recent history link.
  6. On “Time range to clear”, select from the drop-down menu the time range to clear the browsing data. It’s always recommended to select “Everything”.
  7. Under “Details”, check only Cookies and Cache.
  8. Click the Clear now button to complete the task.

Text size

Windows 10
  1. Open your System Settings. To get there, click the windows logo on the bottom left of your screen, then click the gear icon on the menu that pulls up.
  2. Under these settings, select Ease of Access, or use the search bar available on top.
  3. Within these options, you should see one called Make text bigger. Adjust the slider under to fit your preferences. 
Windows 7                                                                                                                                                                             
  1. Open your Ease of Access menu. To get there, select the windows logo on the bottom left of your screen, then Control Panel, then Ease of Access, then Ease of Access Centre.
  2. Under Explore all settings, select Make the computer easier to see.
  3. Under Make things on the screen larger, select Change the size of text and icons.
  4. Adjust the size to fit your preferences.  
Mac OS                                                                                                                                                                               
  1. At the top of your screen, click View in the menu bar.
  2. Select Show View Options.
  3. This should pull up a menu with an option called Text Size.
  4. Adjust the number beside it to fit  your preferences.  
Android                                                                                                                                                                             
  1. Go to your Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to Display or find it via the search bar on top.
  3. Select Text and display size. Adjust the slider to fit your preferences.  
IOS                                                                                                                                                                               
  1. Go to your Settings app.
  2. Scroll down to Accessibility or find it through the search bar on top.
  3. Select Display and text size
  4. Tap Larger Text for font options. Adjust the slider to fit your preferences.
